StudyJams

Scholastic Study Jams is a collection of over 200 learning resource collections. Study Jams are videos, slide shows, & step-by-step explanations for science & math that will have your students discovering everything from invertebrates to the water cycle & the rule of divisibility. Each Jam includes a teaching video/step-by-step/slide show, key vocabulary, & a test yourself section where they can practice what they have just learned. Each Jam also suggests related jams where students can expand their learning & dig deeper on a subject. This is more like an interactive textbook where each concept is introduced in the context of a story. Students learn the concept from fun Study Jam characters & can pause & rewind the learning as needed. In the test yourself section, students can check for understanding & receive immediate feedback on their learning.

Study Jams is a truly incredible collection of learning opportunities for students. Use Jams to introduce your students to a new concept, or reinforce learning. In Math students can learn about numbers, multiplication & division, addition & subtraction, fractions, decimals & percents, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, probability, & problem solving. Each topic has several sub-topics for students to explore. In science topics include: plants, animals, the human body, ecosystems, landforms, rocks & minerals, weather & climate, solar system, matter, force & motion, energy, light, & sound, & scientific inquiry. Again, each science topic has several sub-topics.

Study Jams can be used as a whole class, as a center activity, or for students to extend their learning.

Teacher Guest Post
(A teacher guest post by Mrs. Clark, 3rd Grade Teacher)

StudyJams is an excellent website that helps reinforce math & science concepts. When you arrive at the website you can search the concept that you are teaching & will find several “study jams” related to that concept. Each study jam is either a video, step-by-step tutorial of a problem related to that concept, or a slideshow. When you finish with the video, step-by-step tutorial, or slideshow, your students will be able to try to solve a problem on their own, using the steps they were shown. There is also a test yourself button, that asks the students about 10 questions about what they just learned. Some of them even have a sing along that sings about the concept! This website can be used as an introduction to a topic or a review. Several third grade teachers like to use this website to give our students more practice & build on their knowledge.
